Job Description

Administrative Residents are in a 6-12-month trainee appointment within the Cedars-Sinai. The Program cultivates the development of outstanding individuals committed to careers in healthcare. The Administrative Resident will have the opportunity to explore working in a complex multi-dimensional healthcare system through a combination of shadowing/exposure and project-oriented work that will lead to project management.

Residents will be assigned a mentor/preceptor and be will provided with an opportunity to receive hands-on training and work experience in a healthcare setting. The Administrative Resident role will vary by department placement.

The Administrative Resident will meet regularly with their mentor/preceptor and other leaders to establish learning outcomes and monitor progress. Will be mentored by various leaders in the leader's specific areas of expertise. Within each area, the Administrative Resident will contribute to projects aligned to their learning outcomes. Depending on the scope and purpose of the project, the resident may serve as a project facilitator, or support under the direction of their Mentor. Receives hands-on training to build skills in the following areas: communication, interpersonal skills, organizational structure, budget development, project development and management, and organizational development.

Some residents will come to us through affiliation agreements.

What you'll be doing in this role:

  • Establishes learning outcomes with Mentor; assists in defining project(s) and timelines.
  • Meets at established intervals with Mentor to review learning outcomes & progress.
  • Shadows leaders as assigned to understand departmental and institutional goals, programs, projects, and impact.
  • Develops interpersonal, analytical, management, and leadership skills.
  • Learns the operations of primary department where the fellow has been placed.
  • Contributes the Cedars-Sinai mission through the lens of the department where the resident is placed.
  • Contributes to a minimum of one project during residency.
  • Under guidance of mentor, defines and develops a project plan and assists in the coordination activities necessary to meet agreed upon objectives and deliverables while maintaining status updates for all stakeholders.
  • May be exposed to a variety of units institution-wide; may learn the inner workings of these departments as they relate to defined project(s).
  • Under leadership of a project manager participates in projects that develop analytical, leadership, finance, and health care operations competencies.
  • Rotate through assigned areas for one month each, as leaders are available. Meet with Mentor on a reoccurring basis. Resident will learn from directors, managers, and other organizational leaders. Resident will assist in the completion of a minimum of one project during their appointment; although additional projects may be added/required, as described by Department.

Qualifications

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Residency related field required. Currently enrolled in an accredited Master's Program in a Residency related field is strongly preferred.
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience in business, healthcare, or a related field preferred.
