The Internship program provides students and trainees with an opportunity to observe and gain knowledge about the numerous options for a career in healthcare. Typically lasting not more than a twelve-month period, this internship will expose participants to a diverse spectrum of clinical or non-clinical work settings. The assignment will be in a support function, and the level of responsibilities will be dependent upon the level of knowledge or technical abilities.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receives instruction & training in the assigned clinical or non-clinical department.
- Shadow staff and gain exposure to a variety of processes, policies, and procedures.
- Assists staff with keeping accurate and detailed reports and records related to projects, experiments, etc.
Department-Specific Responsibilities:
- Receives orientation to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other Human Subjects Courses.
- Receives instruction & training in the areas of basic, translational, and/or clinical research.
- Provides support with research data collection and data entry, literature searches, basic patient screening tasks, and may assist with basic scholarly writing.
- Assist as needed with the operation and maintenance of lab equipment.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Life/Physical Sciences or related field, which includes a minimum of two years of lab coursework, depending on assignment.
Qualifications
Experience and Skills:
- Basic understanding of general research objectives if assigned in a lab or research.
- Basic computer skills, including Excel and Word.
- General understanding of laboratory procedures and experimental protocols.
