The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator oversees the operational, technical and personnel activities with emphasis on the clinical component of the Pharmacy Department. The Pharmacy Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing monitoring of process improvement effectiveness. This role performs all job duties in accordance with pharmacy policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, best practice documents, and standard operating procedures while following established quality and patient safety protocols.
- Serves as the lead liaison for the pharmacy department related to electronic medical records, automated dispensing machines and various other technology platforms and/or matters. Identifies issues and works with staff and management to provide cost effective, feasible, user friendly solutions.
- Ensures department compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory agency standards and licensure requirements. Maintain staff compliance hospital policies, procedures and protocols. May conduct tracers to ensure staff compliance as regulatory issues or risks are identified.
- Assists leadership in assessing and resolving inpatient operational issues and problems. Conducts performance improvement studies to evaluate opportunities to improve clinical and distributive services.
- Works collaboratively with nursing and physician leadership to implement department initiatives to improve the patient’s experience.
- Manages assigned staff with responsibility, works with assigned staff to identify their goals and opportunities for development of knowledge and skills.
- Responsible for coordination of the medication use process, including but not limited to policy/procedure/guideline development, formulary management, non-formulary/restricted medication approval, and monitoring for appropriate medication utilization.
- Develops medication use evaluations using an evidence-based approach, to promote safe and cost-effective medication management. Maintains and updates formulary references.
- Actively identifies methods and approaches to simplify work processes, decrease medication wastage, increase the quality of services provided, and improve overall resource management.
- Informs stakeholders of any changes in drug supply, drug shortages, formulary status, class standardizations, guidelines, protocols.
- Oversees the Antibiotic Stewardship Program, Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and other regulatory programs as determined by Pharmacy Director.
- Serves as preceptor for pharmacy students, interns, technicians and pharmacists when they are on rotation or staffing in the Hospital.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD), required
Work Experience:
- Three (3) years of experience in Pharmacy or Pharmacy Mgmt, required
- Pharmacist Post Graduate Year PGY-1 (one year) and/or PGY-2 (two year) residency, preferred
Licenses & Certifications:
California Pharmacist License, required
Basic Life Support (BLS), required
Board Certification in Pharmacotherapy or in Specialty Area, preferred
