Job Description
The Robotics Surgery Specialist works under the direction and supervision of the Associate Director and Executive Director. The RSS is responsible for developing and implementing services and activities related to the Robotics Program. The RSS functions as an integral member of the patient care team, responsible for the clinical direction of staff members employed in their unit/s. The RSS will function autonomously in the performance of assigned responsibilities and work cooperatively with physicians, staff, and management, including CN-IVs to support the mission, vision, values and strategic plan of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. The RSS will provide professional nursing development and education services to nurses and surgical technicians in collaboration with the Operating Room Nursing Education Program Coordinators. The RSS will participate in the Robotic Steering Committee by active membership to one of the different subcommittees, such as Training and Credentialing, Surgical Outcomes, Optimizing Access and Cost Effectiveness/Appropriateness.
The Robotics Surgery Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing services and activities related to the Robotics Program including managing and training. Responsible for ensuring the patient receives the best possible clinical and service experience from the time of surgery until discharge to the unit. Will maintain quality standards for responsive service including data management of key quality indicators. Serves as a liaison between the physicians, nursing staff, allied healthcare professionals, patients, and their families.
• Conducts Robotic Training for onboarding to the OR staff and surgeons, in collaboration with vendor Clinical Sales Representative. Competent to complete and promote use of online training modules provided by robotic vendor(s)
• Coordinates In-service to Sterile Processing Department (SPD) regarding cleaning and sterilization of Specialty Robotic Instruments and accessories as needed. In addition to, requests and maintains inventory of Specialty Robotic instruments and accessories.
• Collaborates with Central Issues/Supply Chain in managing Robotic custom packs (Robotic MVR, Robotic XI, etc) for additions, deletions.
• Provides input for annual budget for Capital Ancillary Equipment related to Robotics Program
• Coordinates with Central Scheduling on the Robotic surgery schedule and provides feedback to the RSC on Robotic Block Scheduling.
• Promotes efficient back table setup by providing custom packs appropriate for the case and standardization of instrument trays (Robotic and accessory).
• Assists with set up Robotic Surgical System for surgical procedures. Able to assist or set up auxiliary equipment for Robotic procedures (ESU/Bipolar, Harmonic, BK Ultrasound Probes, etc.)
• Participates in the Robotic Steering Committee (RSC) as member in one of the subcommittees, currently Cost Effectiveness and Appropriateness. Turn in presentation (about the subcommittee) to the RSC on regular basis. Provides data analysis from variety of available resources, as requested.
• Requests and maintains ancillary supplies related to robotic surgery program.
• Manages routine preventative maintenance on Robotic Surgical System in coordination with vendor Surgical Field Service Engineer.
• Clinical troubleshooting of the robotic Surgical System during robotic procedures.
• Performs an investigation for broken instruments and scopes and submits a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) report to the company for credits and further investigation of the broken instruments and scopes.
• Maintains accurate preference cards and collaborates with other Preference card editors for changes (additions or deletions).
• Supports the preparation and positioning of patients for robotic procedures in addition to assists as scrub nurse at the patient side for surgical procedures, if needed.
• Performs all other OR Nursing duties as requested.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required.
Licenses and Certifications:
RN State License is required, upon hire.
BLS is required, upon hire.
Work Experience:
5 years minimum of Clinical Experience is required.
5 years minimum experience as a circulating nurse in the operating room, preferably within robotics, is required.
5 years minimum of Robotic surgery experience is required, with the ability to scrub and circulate the service lines, Cardiac, Urology, Gynecology, Thoracic, EENT, and General Surgery.
