Under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist, the Lead Radiation Therapist is a proficient and experienced Allied Health Professional who performs simulations and administers radiation treatments as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist, under the supervision of the Chief Radiation Therapist. The Lead Radiation Therapist possess in depth knowledge of all aspects of Radiation Therapy. The Lead Radiation Therapist serves as a resource for all Radiation Therapist staff members at assigned site.
Summary of Essential Duties:- Performs accurate and efficient radiation therapy treatment simulations as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist. This includes proper use of simulator, fabrication of immobilization devices and various treatment devices such as bite block and custom bolus cut outs.
- Delivers accurate, efficient, and reproductible radiation therapy treatment as prescribed by a Radiation Oncologist and as indicated in the treatment plan. This includes operation of linear accelerator, verifying treatment plan prior to treatment, proper patient positioning, and monitoring of patient during procedure. Monitors the technical accuracy of treatment setups by Radiation Therapists and Senior Radiation Therapists.
- Serves as point of contact for all Radiation Therapy questions and issues at assigned site, including questions around treatment protocols, quality assurance, staffing schedules, patient schedules, and equipment issues. Ensures that Senior Therapists complete all responsibilities. Covers Chief Radiation Therapist when needed. Meets with Chief Therapist for daily huddle to report workflow concern
Qualifications
Education:
- Graduate of an ARRT approved Radiation Therapy program required
- Bachelor's Degree in Radiation Therapy preferred
Certifications/Licensure:
- ARRT certification in Radiation Therapy required
- California Therapeutic Radiation Technologist certification required
- Basic Life Support from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
- California Fluoroscopy permit preferred
Experience:
- A minimum of 7 years of technical experience as a Radiation Therapist required
- 10 years of experience preferred
