What will you be doing in this role:
The Art Preparator – Per Diem, performs tasks throughout the greater medical center grounds, including all satellite buildings where art or art objects are to be displayed or stored. Performs picture framing, repairs installations and de-installations, maintains and updates records, documentation and files of the objects included in the 20,000+ art collection when they are moved, handled or in need of inventory updates.
- Performs the tasks assigned by the Curator, Curatorial Assistant, and Art Preparator II.
- Installs and de-installs artwork from present locations within the medical center and satellite locations to make way for area renovations or infill/backfill as required by the Facilities Department and the Facilities, Planning, Design and Construction Department.
- Performs repairs, framing and conservation/restoration, cleaning, preventative care/maintenance, storing and hanging all objects in the collection as well as the organization and maintenance of the art storage facilities.
Per Diem, minimum 1-day/week, possibly more if needed
Qualifications
Experience Requirements:
Three (3) plus years of experience performing related duties in a museum, private collection, gallery, or art related environment.
Ability to follow oral instructions as to construction and installation of exhibits.
Physically handles delicate and valuable works of art with extreme care.
Have a general knowledge of various forms of contemporary fine art.
Ability to use software applications and operate technological devices (computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) Proficiency in basic computing skills, including Microsoft Office software, database management software, Adobe Creative Suite, project management software.
Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma/GED, preferred.
Academic credentials or professional certificates regarding museum studies, art history, conservation/restoration, arts administration, or related specialty field are preferred.
