What You Do in this Role:This Supervisor had responsibility for Respiratory Therapy.
- Provides leadership in the delivery of patient care and respiratory therapy practices within assigned clinical unit(s). Works with Respiratory Management to address issues identified with regard to quality of care standards. Ensures efficient quality of care is provided and is in compliance with federal, state and local regulatory requirements and established organizational goals.
- Supervises the coordination of patient assignments based on staff competencies, including the delegation and assignment patient care tasks and prioritization of workload, considering patient acuity, activity and available resources.
- Assists in assessing the educational needs of staff, patient, and families; plans and coordinates with Respiratory Therapy Educator the educational classes required for the department. Validates, monitors and evaluates the orientation process for new staff members. Coordinates with Respiratory Leader to develop knowledge and practice through in-service and basic competency programs to meet regulatory requirements.
- May perform direct patient care within scope and practice of RCP license
Qualifications
Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelors of Science required in Respiratory Therapy, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field
- Masters in Science preferred in Respiratory Therapy, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or a related field
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must be currently licensed by the State of California as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (R.C.P.) and a registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support, (ACLS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of Respiratory Therapy or healthcare supervisory experience required
- Minimum of 5 years of specialty Respiratory Care leadership and management clinical experience in Respiratory Therapy or acute setting preferred
- Must possess mathematics skills as necessary to the management and clinical functions of the job. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
Physical demands:
- You must be able to:
- Perform 1- and 2-man CPR.
- Lift and carry 25 lbs.
- Physically move an H-size gas cylinder-and-cart assembly as well as all Departmental life support systems over Hospital floor surfaces.
- Physically roll a 200 lb., horizontally positioned patient.
- Must possess auditory and visual capabilities sufficient for responding to pulmonary life support alarms and related monitoring systems.
