Position Summary:

The RN Education Program Specialist takes a leadership role in the development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of education programs/projects for staff and patients. The scope includes the entire health care continuum in conjunction with the Education Department team and Clinical leadership. An Education Program Specialist identifies safety concerns and institutes measures to provide a safe environment for both patients and staff. They design comprehensive assessments, interventions and evaluations to support and assist staff in the care of patients. The roles of this job closely align with the principles established by the Association of Nurses in Professional Development. 

This role focuses in four general areas: orientation/onboarding, competency development and maintenance, continuing education, and professional development. 

Orientation and Onboarding 

  • Facilitation of orientation and training for new nursing staff both on the unit and in the classroom under the guidance of the Associate Director of Education.

Competency Development

  • Works with unit nursing and hospital leadership to maintain staff [ZK1]competency including the ability to interact with people of diverse cultural backgrounds. 

Continuing Education 

  • Responsible for creating continuing education experiences for staff based on their current area of practice. 
  • Designs educational programs based on the needs of the nursing staff, regulatory recommendations and evidence-based findings.

Professional Development

  • Create and maintenance of programs that serve to provide staff with professional development opportunities. 
  • Promote the concept of clinical inquiry and continuous improvement in the practice of nursing science. 

Other Responsibilities Include: 

  • Independent coordination of programs, projects and events with, CSMH departments and throughout the Cedars-Sinai Health System. 
  • Communication and sharing of educational programs to the health system.
  • Actively participates appropriate hospital and system wide committees and Professional  Governance initiatives.
  • Assists with hospital wide initiatives involving new patient populations, technology, and innovation.
  • Facilitates review of current policies and procedures for assigned areas and ensures updates are in line with current recommendations from the literature and best practice. 

Hours: Typically normal business hours with some flexibility in earlier or later start time to meet the needs of both Day and Night shift.


Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

  • Minimum of an Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Nursing.
  • Master’s of Science in Nursing strongly preferred.
  • Terminal degree in Nursing Practice or Philosophy, or Education preferred.

License/Certifications:

  • Valid CA Registered Nurse License.
  • BLS and ACLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required.
  • ANCC Specialty Certification within 1 year of hire.
  • ANPD Specialty Certification within 1 year of hire strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years experience teaching required. Experience teaching while communicating effectively in English (written and verbal communication) with persons of various cultural and educational backgrounds. 
  • Experienced in data management. Excellent organizational skills; effectively coordinate all aspects of education course design and implementation.
  • Working knowledge of The Joint Commission and other state and local regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent time management, analytical, and technical skills.
  • Full command (verbal and written) of the English language.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Windows and other Microsoft Office software: MS Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint Word, etc.
  • Must be able to manage competing priorities, while being extremely adaptable and flexible and maintaining a positive work environment.
  • Team player, positive attitude, adaptable, committed to supporting teammates and serving the clinical teams.
